A Chinese cargo ship, Yi Peng 3, is suspected of deliberately dragging its anchor for over 100 miles on the Baltic seabed, damaging undersea internet cables connecting Sweden, Finland, Germany, and Lithuania, according to international investigators. Two internet links in the region stopped working, prompting a multi-nation investigation, which is exploring whether the act was ordered by Russian intelligence. While Russia denies involvement, officials suspect it might be part of a broader pattern of infrastructure sabotage since the country’s invasion of Ukraine. The ship’s owner, Ningbo Yipeng Shipping, is reportedly cooperating, and some Western intelligence officials don’t believe the Chinese government is involved. However, officials remain cautious in accusing Russia outright to avoid escalating tensions.
