Over 8 million Android users have been affected by malicious loan applications, collectively termed “SpyLoan,” available on the Google Play Store. These 15 apps, identified by McAfee Labs, deceptively promise quick loans but instead exploit users by collecting sensitive information and demanding excessive permissions. This can lead to extortion, harassment, and financial loss. The apps have targeted users across countries including Mexico, Colombia, Senegal, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Tanzania, Peru, and Chile. While some have been removed or updated to comply with Google Play policies, users are advised to exercise caution, scrutinize app permissions, and report any suspicious applications.
